AJESI is building a diverse pool of reviewers across education, skills development and innovation studies.

Reviewers are asked to complete a structured report within three weeks of accepting an invitation, and are normally invited to review no more than three manuscripts a year. Reviews are double-blind. Contributions are formally acknowledged in the journal's annual reviewer listing, and active reviewers are considered first when editorial vacancies arise.

AJESI invites expressions of interest from scholars and practitioners who wish to join the journal's editorial leadership.

What the roles involve

Editors handle manuscripts within their area of expertise, identify and invite suitable reviewers, and make evidence-based recommendations to the editor-in-chief. Editorial board members advise on journal strategy, scope and standards, and help to promote the journal within their networks. All roles are voluntary and are normally held for a renewable two-year term.

Who should apply

Applicants should hold a doctorate or equivalent professional standing, have a record of publication or practice in a relevant field, and be able to commit a few hours each month. We particularly encourage applications from scholars based in Africa and the wider Global South, and from early-career researchers.

Send a short statement of interest (maximum one page) together with a curriculum vitae to editorial@ajesi.org, indicating the role and subject area of interest. Applications are considered on a rolling basis.

The African Journal of Education, Skills and Innovation (AJESI), published by the African Skills and Innovation Network (ASIN), invites submissions for its inaugural edition (Volume 1, 2026).

AJESI is a peer-reviewed, diamond open-access journal. There are no submission charges and no article processing charges, and every published article is free to read worldwide under a Creative Commons licence.

Scope

We welcome empirical, theoretical, and practice-based contributions at the intersection of education, skills development and innovation, including:

• Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems and reform
• Higher education, employability and graduate transitions
• Skills policy, labour markets and the future of work
• Digital learning, educational technology and innovation ecosystems
• Informal learning, apprenticeships and enterprise-based training
• Comparative and Global South perspectives on education and development

Submission types

Original research articles (6,000 to 9,000 words), review essays (6,000 to 8,000 words), practice and policy notes (3,000 to 5,000 words), and book reviews (1,000 to 1,500 words).

How to submit

Register or sign in and submit through the online submission portal. Manuscripts should follow APA 7th edition and be prepared for double-blind peer review. First editorial decisions are typically returned within two weeks of submission.
